DJ Emir Moves The Soul.
DJ Emir's Past History:
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City's Spanish Harlem, DJ Emir has a strong musical heritage through both his Puerto Rican parents. His Dad is a prominent Puerto Rican guitarist and Quatro Player and his mom is a college professor with an extensive musical knowledge and historical background in politics and music. DJ Emir started his musical training with classical violin lessons, music theory and voice lessons at an early age. Later DJ Emir became a prominent Hip Hop Emcee in New York City forming a small Hip Hop Group with his college roomate Khalid Best at Cooper Union School of Art. Their experiences together freestyling at parties and concerts lead Emir towards his true calling as a DJ behind the turntables. Just the opposite of the Nonce, DJ Emir put down the Microphone for the Turntables and his talent as an Emcee would lay latent as his skills with the turntables continued to grow.
DJ Emir would later move to Denver Colorado to finish obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design. He would soon become Denver's Top Nightclub and Mixtape DJ. DJ Emir took several awards including Denver's Best Hardcore Techno DJ in 1994, Denver's Best Mixtape DJ, Denver's Best Hip Hop DJ and Denver's Best Nightclub DJ several years in a row. He later met Joloni Williams aka The Funkologist joining his Hip Hop Group as a temporary DJ hired for a Battle of the bands competition. In the battle Emir revealed his skills as an Emcee freestyling a few lines on stage and was quickly accepted as the newest member of The Stress Crew Hip Hop group. The group put on some of Denver's biggest Independent concert events including the Hip Hop jam 1, 2 & 3 each bringing in over 1200 Loyal Hip Hop fans and boosting one of the biggest state wide Emcee Battles, DJ battles and Break dance competitions Denver has ever had.
DJ Emir has won several DJ battle competitions including the 2001 Guitar Center DJ Battle Arvada Store Finals, plus several Regional Battles and many local DJ battles. He has also won many Nightclub Style DJ battles as well showing his diverse versatilty as both a turntablist and as a nightclub party DJ. His turntablist skills and his perfect blends allowed Emir to creat his own remixes on the fly and added a special flair all his own to every nightclub performance. His exciting performances would landed him a position as the official DJ for The Next Level TV Show Denver. From 2001-2004 DJ Emir could be seen on this nationally syndicated TV show Opening up the show and Deejaying on the wheels of steel in the background as well as co-hosting with Candice Picasso, Charles Casteneda and Carlos Loera.
DJ Emir Launched his now world famous website in 2003 and once again started producing mixtapes, this time in CD format. With the launch of his website and the creation of new mixtapes his fame sky rocketed and he started became famous around the world. DJ emir began touring different states and then different countries. In 2005 Emir was invited back to Puerto Rico to DJ several nightclubs. In 2007 and 2008 Emir Traveled to China, Grenada, The Caribbean, West Indies, Canada, South America and Mexico.
In 2008 DJ Emir recieved several Accolades including VIP Magazine's "2008 Mixtape of The Year award" and VIP Magazine's "Mixtape DJ of The Year Award." Emir also recieved a ton of publicity from several magazines, newspapers, websites and blogs as his mixtapes were really setting him appart from other mixtape DJs. Back in 2005 DJ Emir realized there weren't that many DJs out there that were putting out high quality mixtapes, and even worse the quality of the nightclub DJs was in steady decline as more and more DJs started using CD turntables instead of the traditional Technics Vinyl Turntables that were the industry standard for over two decades. Emir coined several phrases to help distinguish himself verbally from all the regular DJs. He labelled his mixtapes "Shaken Not Stirred" utilizing the famous James Bond Agent 007 phrase to indicate that his mixtapes weren't just mixed they were well agitated and properly blended. Emir then focused on his strong nightclub DJ skills and differentiated himself from regular nightclub DJs with his now famous slogan "Real DJs Do Real Things" which basically meant a real DJ is one that is always on the turntables mixing, always reading the crowd, always rocking the dancefloor, while other DJs are sitting back sipping on alcohol, macking on girls or just being lazy. After seeing the huge influx of weak DJs that the advent of the CDJ, DVDJ and Serato had allowed, Emir came up with one more phrase that would anger a huge portion of the DJ community (the weaker portion) the new phrase for the CD DJs who could hardly mix or scratch and couldn't really hold the crowd... "On The WHEELS OF PLASTIC" or simply plastic DJs. As we all know plastic parts are made for toys. And Toys was an oldschool word for not having enough skill, in other words you were still playing with the little kids in the little kids playground with the little kiddie toys.
Fortunately for now there are still great DJs out there that know how to really rock the turntables and rock the crowd. DJs like DJ Am, DJ Groove Creator, DJ Z-Trip, DJ Vajra, DJ Q-Bert, DJ Craze, DJ Spinbad, DJ A-Trak, DJ Kid Capri, DJ R.A.W. and of course DJ Emir and several others who have extreme skills on the turntables and still use traditional Vinyl Turntables with real Vinyl or Serato Scratch Vinyl Emulation Software to completely annihilate dancefloors and nightclubs with their extreme DJ styles and awesome techniques.
Real DJs Do Real Things: The group of great DJs Like DJ Emir, DJ AM and DJ Craze will hopefully continue to inspire other DJs to stretch their own limitations to become better DJs and hopefully understand the reasons why most of the great DJs still use Vinyl Turntables. Hopefully Vinyl DJs will not go gentle into that good night. Hopefully audiences everywhere will feel the wrath of a true DJ and know what a real DJ can do. May our next generations of club goers not have to settle for less, may they have the best DJs, the DJs that know how to rock the world.
